MUSICAL PROGRAM

Period entertainment — both music and dancing — will enchant you …
you’ll meet costumed contemporaries of Lafayette as you sample exquisite fare from some of Washington’s finest restaurants, hotels and pastry shops …
We will surprise you and transport you to a supremely elegant and romantic 18th century grand soiree!

Caroline Copeland The New York Baroque Dance Company
Caroline Copeland and Junichi Fukuda of The New York Baroque Dance Company at Hillwood Museum and Gardens.
First with a mini dance/drama created by Caroline Copeland of The New York Baroque Dance Company, performed by herself and fellow dancer/actor Matthew Ting, accompanied by Kevin Shannon on period instruments. The music and dance will combine into an amusing drama, portraying an American husband and wife rehearsing before the ball opening.

This short performance (15 minutes) is underwriten by Genevieve Brunet Smith, Artistic Director of HISTRIO, Washington’s only French Theatre. It captures the excitement of General Lafayette’s second visit to the young United States in 1780. Sailing on the Hermione, Lafayette landed and was quickly swept up with attending balls in his honor.

You may even be tempted to join the ball. Watch your steps! You might be pulled onto the dancefloor by the amazing dancers from Gadsby’s Tavern reenacting the 18th century Lafayette’s ball.
More program details coming soon! Including a fast-forward to the present, as the band and the DJ invites you to dance the night away!
